To-do this week

Pack your exam bag 🎒

Pack your physical student ID card (which you can collect from the Jane Foss Russell Cards Hub at G02, Level 3), pens, approved materials, and a clear water bottle in your bag the night before your exam. Check out what you can (and can't) bring into the exam room.

Check your travel route to ensure you get to campus on time 🚍

Before heading to campus, plan your route and check for any potential disruptions via Transport NSW to ensure you make it to campus safely and on time. Visit our Getting to campus page for information on transport options and directions.

Fuel up for free before your exams🍴

Don't sit your exam on an empty stomach – there's plenty of free food to enjoy on campus as part of the Exam Ready program:

  • Grab free breakfast, lunch and snacks from Monday to Thursday until 27 November at the USU truck outside Fisher Library.
  • Enjoy free fruit handed out by staff in Library spaces – perfect for a quick study break!
  • Pick up a Cup of Care – hot drinks and treats are available throughout the exam period in each of our libraries (Fisher, Law, Scitech, Susan Wakil and the Con), as well as at Camden and the Quarter.

Know where to access health and wellbeing support over the break 🤝

Some support services will be unavailable between 5 pm Friday 19 December and 9 am Tuesday 6 January 2026 – the University's seasonal break. However, the following primary supports will still be available, including:

  • SafeZone: a free safety app that connects you with Protective Services and emergency teams, and sends important safety notifications
  • Protective Services: (02) 9351 3333
  • Mental wellbeing support line: 1300 474 065 or text 0488 884 429
  • Sonder: safety and wellbeing support for international students
  • TalkCampus: peer support for all students

All of the above supports are available 24/7.

Your exam survival guide 💪

Last week, many of you shared you were 'surviving' through STUVAC. We're here to make sure you not only survive but thrive through exam season. Check out our short guide for what to do before, during and after exams:

Before the exam 🗓️

  • Check your exam timetable and venue. Don’t get caught out at the wrong lecture theatre or room!
  • Bring your physical student ID card. It’s your ticket into the exam room, and digital versions won’t be accepted.
  • Know what you can and can’t bring, like approved calculators, clear water bottles, and transparent pencil cases.
  • Arrive early so you’re not rushing and give yourself a moment to settle in.

During the exam ✍️

  • Keep an eye on the clock. Manage your time and come back to tricky questions.
  • Keep your devices in your bag. Follow the rules and listen to your supervisors.
  • If you’re feeling anxious, put down your materials and breathe slowly through your nose for 30 seconds.

After the exam 🎉

  • Be proud of your effort. Finishing an exam is a win in itself.
  • Don’t overthink your answers. You’ve done your part, now shift your focus.
  • If things didn’t go to plan, support is available.

Bronte Beach

Hitting the surf this summer? Stay beach and sun safe 🏖️

Enjoying Australia's beaches on a warm summer's day can be the perfect day out with friends and family. Make sure each beach day is fun and carefree with these important safety tips.

  • Always swim at a patrolled beach and in between the red and yellow flags.
  • Never go swimming if you've been consuming alcohol or drugs.
  • If you're suck in the water and can't safely swim back to shore, raise you hand to signal to lifeguards that you need immediate help.

Whether you're going for a swim, sunbathing on the sand or just heading outdoors on a summer's day, remember to slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat before going out. It's also important to stay hydrated, so bring a bottle from home that you can re-fill with water while you're out.

Check out Insider Guides beach and sun safety for more tips, including how to spot a rip and survive a rip (powerful, channeled currents of water).

Congratulations to Marcus Dhillon, School of Computer Science and Cybersecurity Capstone student who placed 2nd among other staff and student developers at our Secure Code Guardian competition last month – an outstanding result given that most competitors were experienced staff developers.

Marcus competed in a fast-paced Capture the Flag event testing skill, persistence and creativity in attacking and defending code. Finishing just behind Baden Spargo, a seasoned ICT Techlab software engineer and former Capstone student, Marcus demonstrated exceptional capability and skill. Well done Marcus!
