On Wednesday 2 September, some National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) members will take protected industrial action as part of their campaign relating to a new Enterprise Agreement. Almost all scheduled classes will move online and some, such as labs which cannot run online or be rescheduled, may be cancelled. Please check Canvas and your student email regularly for the latest information from the University and your unit coordinators. Our campuses remain open and accessible; however, you may encounter picket lines at entrances to campus. Find out more about the planned industrial action on Wednesday 2 September.

Make sure you're ready for census date – Monday 31 August 🗓️

For most students, census date for Semester 2 is next Monday 31 August. Census date is the last day you will be able to withdraw from any units of study, finalise your residency status, suspend your studies or discontinue your course without it affecting your grades. Each unit of study has a census date, based on the session in which it is taught, so it's important to check when your census date is.

Complete your AHEM by 31 August ✍️

If you started a new degree this semester, make sure you complete your Academic Honesty Education Module (AHEM) before Monday 31 August. The module is compulsory and will help you understand your academic integrity responsibilities and set you up for success in your studies.

Need a little motivation? Join the final Snack & Submit session on Friday 28 August, 12:30–2 pm in Room 213, Fisher Library. Bring your device, complete your AHEM, and enjoy a free Machi Machi bubble tea and OEI giveaway while you work. 🧋

Complete the Respect@Sydney module ✅

We've all got a role to play to make our campus safe and inclusive for all students. Understanding what sexual consent, boundaries, and respectful relationships look like is an important way to keep yourself, your friends, and our community safe on and off campus. If you've started your studies in 2026, you’re required to complete the Respect@Sydney module in Canvas. This module has been co-designed with our students following consultation and feedback.

Your University Canteen, an affordable food hub shaped by and for students, is now open on Level 2 of the Electrical Engineering Building. Enjoy $5 meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with a range of other food items, snacks and drinks available all day. You’ll need to show your student ID to Canteen staff to access $5 meals, so make sure you have this ready before your visit.

When Sinthia left Bangladesh to pursue a PhD in Australia, she became the first person in her family to study overseas. Now based at the University's Plant Breeding Institute in Narrabri, she's researching how rising temperatures affect wheat production and helping develop crops that can better withstand a changing climate. The 2026 National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) is landing in your student inbox Monday 31 August. The survey is your opportunity to be heard and help inform University prevention efforts, strengthen support services, and drive continued action across Australian universities. Participation is voluntary and your responses are confidential – and you can stop the survey at any time.

Teaching space audit in Week 4

This week, Student Life Ambassadors will briefly enter teaching spaces at our Camperdown/Darlington campus to observe and record room occupancy as part of the University's Teaching Space Utilisation Audit.

They'll be observing and recording how rooms are being used to help the University plan and manage teaching spaces more effectively and deliver a positive learning experience for students. Ambassadors will be clearly identifiable and will do their best to minimise disruption.

Advertised bursaries provide financial assistance to domestic students experiencing hardship due to specific challenges or circumstances. You may be eligible based on your faculty, year of study, if you’re registered with Inclusion and Disability, or if you’re an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student.

Join the Library's Friends of the Library program on Thursday 3 September for Lasca Rides Again, a special presentation by Associate Professor Peter Kirkpatrick exploring the enduring influence of Lasca by Frank Desprez, and what it reveals about the shared frontier histories, cultures and stories of Australia and the US.

Ever wanted to learn a new language while experiencing another culture firsthand? Applications are now open for OLE In-Country units, giving undergraduate students with little to no language experience the chance to study in China, France, Germany, Japan or Korea from December 2026 to January 2027.

Worth 6 credit points, these immersive programs combine language learning with a unique overseas experience. Places are limited, so don't wait too long to apply.
