To-do this week

Secure your login with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) 🔐

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) helps protect your University account and is required to access key systems like Canvas and Sydney Student. If you haven’t set it up yet, you’ll need to do this before enabling faster login options. Find out how to install MFA via the student website.

Simplify your login experience with Okta FastPass 🏃‍♂️

Once MFA is set up, you can enable Okta FastPass – a faster, password‑less way to access your uni apps on Mac or Windows laptops and desktops. Log in to everything from Canvas to Sydney Student with a single click.

Finalise your units of study 📚

The last day to add a new unit of study is Friday 6 March. Log into Sydney Student and go to ‘My studies’, then ‘Units of study’ to ensure you're taking the correct units of study this semester.

Know your academic responsibilities  ✅

If you’re a new undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student, you must complete the compulsory Academic Honesty Education Module on Canvas before Census date, 31 March 2026. You’ll be automatically enrolled if it applies to you.

Remember, you’re responsible for acting honestly and ethically in your studies. Be wary of companies offering ‘assignment help’ or ‘exam support’ – engaging with these services can put you at risk of contract cheating.

Know how to spot a contract cheating service and access academic help from the University if you're feeling overwhelmed – it's free and legitimate.

Ramadan Kareem! ☪️

Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year for Muslims, recognising the month the Qur'an was first revealed to the prophet Mohammed. Ramadan commenced in Australia last Wednesday 18 February after sunset and will end around 20 March with Eid al-Fitr, celebrated as a time for family and friends to come together with communal prayer, gift-giving and dressing in new clothes.

Happy Ramadan to those that celebrate!

Racism@Uni Report

A new national report has highlighted experiences of racism across Australian universities. In response, the University of Sydney has reaffirmed that racism has no place on our campuses and that everyone has a shared responsibility to create safe, respectful and inclusive learning environments. Beware of money muling

If someone asks you to move money through your bank account in exchange for payment, they're asking you to be a money mule. If you believe someone has contacted you online or in-person to be a money mule, you should:

  • stop all communication with the person
  • immediately contact your bank so they can stop any transactions
  • report to police using the 'Report' button at www.cyber.gov.au.

Visit our scams webpage for more information on what to do if you've been scammed, as well as other common scams and how to avoid them.

Year of the Horse

A collage with imagery from the on-campus New Years celebrations: students practicing calligraphy, a dynamic dragon dance on the Wentworth lawns, a close-up of a dragon's head, and women performing a traditional dance performance.

Last week we marked the Year of the Horse on campus with an evening of cultural activities and performances. With a dragon dance, lantern making, calligraphy and a wishing tree, it was the perfect way to mark the start of the year.

Want to learn more? Professor Xiaohuan Zhao from the School of Languages and Culture shares what it means to be born in a Year of the Horse and the Chinese zodiac fortune predictions for 2026.
