To-do this week

Check your exam timetable 🗓️

You can now log in to access your Semester 1 timetable. Check your timetable carefully to find when and where your exams are taking place. The exam period runs from 9–20 June so make sure you get prepared.

Brush up on your study techniques ✏️

Whether you’re catching up or getting ahead, now’s a great time to sharpen your study game. Check out our top study tips, techniques and support services to help you stay on track.

Don’t forget your USI – sanctions apply from 18 May 🕰️

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required by the Australian Government to study in Australia, access your results and graduate. If you haven’t provided a verified USI by Monday 18 May, a sanction will be applied to your enrolment. This means you won’t be able to access your results, and we won’t be able to confer your award or allow you to graduate. Create or check your USI and update it in Sydney Student as soon as possible.

You’ve got this! Access support for your assessments 💪

If assessments are feeling tough, it can be tempting to use quick fixes like assignment help services. Many of these are contract cheating companies, and using them can lead to serious consequences – including failing an assessment or unit, or even being scammed or blackmailed.

✅ There’s a better way – and you don’t have to do it alone.
The University offers free, legitimate support to help you complete your work with confidence:

👩‍🏫 Your Unit Coordinator or tutor — your first stop for unit‑specific help
✍️ Learning Hub — writing, maths and study support (online or in person)
📚 Library resources — including referencing guides
🤝 Peer Learning Advisors — support from students who get uni life

🛟 You can also access free, confidential and independent support from:

🙋‍♂️ SRC Caseworker Help (undergraduates)
🙋‍♀️ SUPRA Postgraduate Advocacy (postgraduates)

When things feel overwhelming, reach out. Real support is here to help you succeed.

An evening of big ideas at TEDxUSYD 🎤

TEDxUSYD returns to the Julie Wu Theatre next Wednesday 14 May from 5:40 pm for In Our Hands. Across the evening, six speakers working in science, medicine, climate, entrepreneurship and mental health will explore what it means to shape the future – and what responsibility that puts in our hands.

Stuck on a question? Try Library Live Chat

Not sure where to start, or hit a small roadblock with research, referencing or finding sources? The Library’s Live Chat is a quick and easy way to get help – no question too small.

Library staff are available to help with everything from finding readings to navigating databases, and on weekdays specialist librarians can support more complex research questions. They can even walk you through digital tools with screen‑sharing if needed.

Teaching space audit this week

This week, you may notice Student Life Ambassadors briefly entering some teaching spaces at our Camperdown/Darlington Campus as part of the University’s Space Utilisation Audit Pilot.

They’ll be observing and recording how rooms are being used to help the University plan and manage teaching spaces more effectively. Ambassadors will be clearly identifiable and will do their best to minimise disruption.

No personal information will be collected, and classes, assessments and exams will continue as normal.

Pint of Science is coming to campus 🍻

From Sunday 18 to Tuesday 20 May, our researchers will take over Hermann’s Bar to share big ideas in a relaxed, no‑jargon setting. You’ll hear about a range of topics, from AI that can read kidney biopsies to how much insects can feel and think. No science background needed – just curiosity.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! 🇲🇽

Cinco de Mayo is observed today, 5 May and commemorates the Battle of Puebla (1862), when Mexican forces defeated the French army. While it is a historically significant day in Mexico, it's more widely commemorated in other countries as a celebration of Mexican heritage, culture and resilience.

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated through cultural events, food, music and community gatherings, and celebrations vary by place and tradition.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo to those who celebrate!
