Welcome to your Week 6 edition of Student News. We're just two weeks from mid-semester break! |
This week, we share unique study abroad opportunities and twilight events on campus, as well as important information about the upcoming federal election.
Last week, many of you told us in our poll that you've caught our shuttle bus or at least seen them on or around campus! Many of you also shared that it can be challenging to get on board at peak times and that it’s not always easy to know when buses are due to depart and arrive.
We've heard your feedback and are reviewing how we can improve the experience. Learn more about getting to and from our campuses. |

The University's definition of antisemitism
The Group of Eight (Go8) universities have developed a definition of antisemitism. The definition has been endorsed by the University's Academic Board and Senate and has been added to the resources accompanying our anti-racism statement (pdf, 157KB).
The creation of this Go8 definition, which has now been adopted by Universities Australia, is an important step in ensuring our Jewish students and staff can participate equally in all aspects of university life, while strengthening protections around academic freedom. |

Have you considered studying abroad as part of your degree? 🌏 |
Register for the Sydney Abroad Fair, taking place on Monday 14 April from 10 am to 2 pm on Eastern Avenue. It’s your chance to meet exchange partner universities and discover all the global experiences available during your degree!
You’ll have the chance to learn tips from students who have undertaken a global experience, like Maeve Sullivan, who’s currently on exchange at New York University in the USA: |
“Start planning sooner rather than later if you’re considering a global exchange program as part of your studies. Be sure to explore the scholarships and funding options available, as this is often the first barrier to participating in an exchange” - Maeve Sullivan (Bachelor of Arts) |

Staying safe on and around campus Our campuses are safe places to learn, study and socialise, and you have access to a range of services and resources to ensure you're comfortable and confident at university. If you're on campus early in the morning or when it's dark, we recommend you follow these tips: |
-
Catch the University's free shuttle bus to and from campus. Check out bus timetables and routes on our getting to campus page.
- Walk with friends to and from class or campus.
- Walk through main pathways with good lighting.
-
Stick to spaces only accessible with your student ID – these are usually libraries and Learning Hubs.
|
If you're concerned about your safety or the safety of others on campus, contact Protective Services on 1800 SYD HLP (1800 793 457). In the event of an emergency, call Triple Zero (000). |
Beware of scams on social media We've been made aware of scams targeting international students on WhatsApp.
Students have reported being contacted by 'tutoring services' that claim to be affiliated with the University. These scam services have threatened to report students to the University for misconduct if they do not pay them. This is a scam.
The University is not affiliated with any tutoring services, and a legitimate tutoring service will never complete assignments for you or demand fees up-front to complete your University work.
Remember, never give your personal information or money to anyone you don't know and stop contact with a scammer as soon as you can. Familiarise yourself with common scams and how to avoid them, and connect with Student Wellbeing if you need support.
