We're here to support you

We're shocked and saddened to see a rise in racially motivated incidents affecting members of the Asian community in Australia. We strongly condemn all forms of racism.

Racism has no place on our campuses, our city, or our society, and we have zero tolerance for any form of racism, threats to safety, hate speech, intimidation, threatening speech, bullying or unlawful harassment.

We'd like to remind you that free and confidential counselling and wellbeing support is available to you 24/7 through our Wellbeing team, and Protective Services is available 24-hours to assist in an emergency or if you feel unsafe on campus.

Your pre-exam checklist āœ…

Check your exam timetable šŸ“…
Know when and where your exams are held by checking your exam timetable. Don't get caught out preparing for the wrong date!

Start revising early šŸ“š
Getting a head start isn't always easy, but spreading out your study will leave you not only more prepared, but more relaxed too.

Get your student card and essentials ready šŸ’³
If you're yet to collect your student card on campus, now's the time as you'll need the physical card for exams. Head to the Student Centre Cards Hub (Level 3, Jane Foss Russell Building, G02), Monday to Friday, 9 am–4.30 pm, to pick it up. Don’t forget to bring valid photo ID so they know it’s you!

Get your calculator approved šŸ”¢
Some calculators are pre-approved and don’t need approval. If yours isn’t on the pre-approved list, bring it in to get the University sticker confirming it’s allowed in your exam. Find out which calculators are pre-approved and how to get approval on the Calculator dictionary page.

Practise under exam conditions ā±ļø
Use past papers and time yourself to get into the exam mindset.

Plan your exam day šŸŒ…
Get good sleep, eat well, and arrive early so you can start calm and confident.

Notices

The University's 2024 Annual Report has been released šŸ“„

Last Friday 30 May, our 2024 Annual Report (pdf, 2.8MB), including our 2024 financial results, was tabled in the NSW Parliament.

The University reported an overall surplus of $545 million. Philanthropic funding and a 15 percent return on our investments drove this headline result. Our core activities of teaching and research, however, recorded a loss and our 2024 underlying operating result was a deficit of $69 million.

Every dollar of our surplus is reinvested over time in teaching, research and making the University of Sydney a better place to work and study. In 2024, the University spent $239 million of our investment income to support these core activities.

Assessments can be challenging – but shortcuts aren’t worth it šŸ’»

Just like showing up to exams or submitting your assessments on time, it’s your responsibility to uphold academic integrity, even when the pressure’s on. That means completing your work honestly and avoiding shortcuts like contract cheating services, which can put your degree at risk.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t go it alone. The University offers free, legitimate academic support to help you get through assessments the right way.

When used responsibly, generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools like Microsoft Copilot and Cogniti can be powerful tools to aid your studies. We featured how students have made use of AI this semester on our Instagram. Now we want to hear from you!

How did you use generative AI this semester?

For class (e.g. collating lecture notes)
For group work (e.g. delegating tasks)
For assessments and exams

Chag Shavuot Sameach! 🌾

Shavuot is a Jewish festival that marks the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, celebrated seven weeks after Passover. It begins this year at sunset on Tuesday 3 June and ends at nightfall on Thursday 5 June. Traditions include staying up all night to study, decorating with greenery, and enjoying dairy foods like cheesecake and blintzes.

Chag Shavuot Sameach to those celebrating!
