To-do this week

In your first or final year? Complete the Student Experience Survey (SES) 📋

Eligible students would've received an email from ses@srcentre.com.au with the Student Experience Survey (SES), a quick 10-15 minute survey that asks you what it's like being a USYD student. The SES closes midnight Sunday 12 October, so don't miss out on having your say and going in the draw to win awesome prizes (1 of 50 limited-edition USYD hoodies and $1000 every week!)

Update your personal details in Sydney Student ✍️

Moved address? Changed your phone number? It's important we always have the correct contact information for you, so we can reach out to you in an emergency. You can add and update your personal details at any time in Sydney Student (go to ‘My details’, then ‘Address and residency’).

Thinking of tutoring school students? Obtain your Working with Children Check clearance ✅

If you provide tutoring (paid or unpaid) to people under 18 years of age outside of your studies, you’re required to hold a valid New South Wales Working with Children Check clearance (WWCC). Failure to apply for and maintain a valid WCCC when it’s required can result in serious penalties, including fines and imprisonment, as well as jeopardising your student visa and future employment in Australia.

Take it easy! 😌

If your mid-semester break plans involve sleeping in, you’re not alone – many of you told us last semester you like to spend this time resting and recharging. Maximise the quality of your rest by following science-backed tips for better sleep.

G’mar Chatima Tova ✡️

Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. It is a time for reflection, prayer, and fasting, observed from sunset on Wednesday 1 October until nightfall on Thursday 2 October. Many Jewish people spend the day in synagogue services, seeking forgiveness and renewal for the year ahead.

Wishing a meaningful Yom Kippur to all who observe.

Shubh Vijayadashami ✨

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is a major Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It marks the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, and Goddess Durga over Mahishasura. This year, Vijayadashami will be observed on Thursday 2 October, concluding the nine-day Navaratri festival.

Across the world, communities celebrate with prayers, cultural performances, and the symbolic burning of Ravana’s effigies. The day also signifies new beginnings, with traditions such as Ayudha Puja and book worship observed in southern regions.

Wishing a joyful and meaningful Vijayadashami to all who celebrate! ✨
