Dear students,
As the Chancellor and I wrote in a message to our community yesterday, we are today observing a National Day of Mourning to honour the victims of the Bondi Beach terror attack, and to stand with all those whose lives have been shattered by this act of violence.
In partnership with our local Jewish community, the University is pleased to host a gathering of remembrance and unity this morning, Thursday 22 January 2026, with details as follows:
Time: 11:30 am – 12:00 pm
Location: Auditorium and Foyer space, F23 Michael Spence Building, Camperdown Campus
The gathering will include representatives of the University and members of the Jewish community, coming together in reflection, remembrance, and solidarity.
All students and staff are warmly invited to attend.
Members of our community are also encouraged to participate in the “One Mitzvah for Bondi” campaign – a NSW Government initiative inviting Australians to perform a simple act of kindness, compassion, or service as a way of adding light to the world and honouring the lives lost. More information is available at: www.nsw.gov.au/onemitzvah.
Support is available to all students, staff and their families, and we encourage you to reach out if you need help. Further details are listed at the bottom of our message from yesterday.
Sincerely,
Mark
