Dear students,

As one of the first merit-based universities in the world, Sydney was founded on the basis of equity for the benefit of all. In our Sydney in 2032 strategy, we pledged to build on this legacy by ensuring access to the opportunities provided by a University of Sydney education is open to the best and brightest minds, no matter their background.  

To support this aspiration, we’re delighted to launch MyGadigal, Australia’s most generous and comprehensive scholarship program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander undergraduate students.  

We’re determined to be a university that reflects the communities we serve: one where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students feel they belong and are supported to thrive. To do this, we need to remove the significant barriers that stand between Indigenous students and a Sydney degree. That's why from now on every eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander undergraduate student will automatically be offered the MyGadigal Scholarship. 

This initiative brings our support for Indigenous students in line with MySydney, the University’s entry and scholarship scheme for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Since launching in 2022, MySydney has supported more than 3100 students, with its first scholars graduating this year. Thanks to our Gadigal Entry Program – the expansion of MySydney – and additional accommodation support, enrolments of Indigenous students at the University increased by 32 percent this past semester. 

MyGadigal will build on this success. Eligible students will receive a scholarship for the duration of their degree, alongside continued ATAR adjustments and academic, personal and mentoring support. 

Social equity is at the heart of the University's past and future, and MyGadigal is part of how we make sure more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students get to Sydney and succeed here.
