Nominations now open – 2026 student elections for University governance positions

24 August 2026 

Dear students, 

Nominations are now open for student positions on the following University governance bodies: 

  • University of Sydney Senate (two-year term commencing 1 December 2026) 
  • Academic Board (one-year term commencing January 2027) 
  • Faculties/University Schools (one-year term commencing January 2027) 
  • Faculty Boards/University School Boards (one-year term commencing January 2027)

These roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the University, represent your peers, and develop valuable leadership experience.

Nominations for Senate must be requested via email (secretariat.elections@sydney.edu.au) whereas nominations for Academic Board and all other positions can be completed online via the nomination form.  

Completed nomination must be received by 12 pm (AEST) on Monday 14 September 2026. 

An information session for prospective candidates will be held at 2.30 pm on Thursday 3 September 2026 via Zoom. To RSVP and receive the Zoom link, or for any further information, please contact secretariat.elections@sydney.edu.au. 

Key dates: 

  • Nominations open: Monday 24 August 2026 (9 am AEST) 
  • Candidate information session: 2.30 pm on Thursday 3 September 2026 (AEST) 
  • Nominations close: Monday 14 September 2026 (12 pm AEST) 
  • Commencement of ballot: Monday 12 October 2026 (9 am AEDT) 
  • Close of ballot: Monday 2 November 2026 (4 pm AEDT) 
  • Declaration of results: Monday 2 November 2026 (4.30 pm AEDT) 

We strongly encourage students from all backgrounds to consider nominating, especially those with lived experience of diversity. Your voice matters, and your contribution can help shape the future of the University.
