Need to know

Plan ahead and set yourself up for next year with the 2025 wall calendar for staff (pdf, 79KB) now available to download and print.

Australia Day public holiday substitution (EA clause 227). Eligible staff who do not wish to observe the Australia Day public holiday on Monday 27 January 2025 can request to substitute it with the working day before (24 January) or after (28 January). Requests should be submitted through Workday and approved by your manager.

A recording of the AI in Assessment for 2025 Town Hall is now available. Visit the AI and assessment intranet page to view the recording and find out more about key changes for 2025.

From 8 December, Transport for NSW will introduce changes to some bus services across Sydney’s Inner West. To learn more about what the changes mean for you, visit transport.nsw.gov.au/buschanges.

Underground cabling work is being undertaken on the corner of Physics Road and Western Avenue from 29 November to 13 December, which may impact access to roads and footpaths off Physics Road. 

Road closures due to student graduations between Wednesday 4 and Friday 6 December. Parts of Science Road, University Place and the Nicholson Car Park will be impacted.

Support disability inclusion with best-practice imagery. In consultation with Diversity and Inclusion, Marketing and Communications has procured a selection of images that appropriately represent disability. Access images and read more about supporting inclusion on the photography and videography planning intranet page. 

Artemis high performance computing (HPC) will be decommissioned in September 2025. New project requests will continue to be accepted via the Researcher Dashboard (DashR) portal up until the end of February 2025 and researchers will be able to access projects on Artemis until 31 August 2025. Learn more about the changes and project timeline on the intranet.

Complete your annual cyber security training by 31 March 2025. This module will soon be assigned to all continuing, fixed-term and casual staff. Watch for an email from Workday with a link to the training and learn more about our shared role in keeping our information safe.

Supporting your mental health before and after natural disasters

Disasters like bushfires, cyclones and flooding can have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals, and the communities in which they live. The Health and Wellbeing team has updated the mental health support page with resources specific to extreme weather events and natural disasters, including support from Converge International, our staff counselling and coaching provider, and the Australian Psychological Society.

Explore the wellbeing support available for staff affected by natural disasters.

The Australian's 2025 Research Magazine celebrates outstanding researchers at the University of Sydney including 24 researchers named as leaders in their respective fields.

Vice-Chancellor and President Mark Scott gave an opening statement and evidence before the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights public hearing on antisemitism at Australian universities.

Professor Annamarie Jagose, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, announced that after an extensive internationally competitive search, Professor Lucy Marshall has been appointed as our inaugural Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Leadership).

26 January | Yabun Festival 2025

Yabun Festival is the largest one-day gathering and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in Australia, held annually on 26 January. The Gadigal Centre team will be on the ground with a stall in the Victoria Park marketplace, while our Indigenous Strategy and Services Media Production team will once again collaborate with festival organisers to live stream Speak Out.
